  • Trained as a General Surgeon in Bombay, India and the U.K. in 1950s.
  • Former Professor of Surgery, Grant Medical College, Mumbai
  • Professor and Head of Dept. of Surgery, Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences from 1990.
  • Past President Indian Chapter of the International Hepato Pancreato Biliary Association
  • Honorary Surgeon to the Governor of the State of Maharashtra.
  • Chief interest in GI Surgery (Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery) for last 25 years.
  • Conducted CME (Continuing Medical Education) programs, seminars and symposia at STATE, REGIONAL and NATIONAL levels of the Association of Surgeons of India for over 3 decades.
  • Live demonstrations of surgical procedures in conferences in India in last 3 decades.
  • Organised an international conference on “Pancreatic Diseases: Limitations and Future Perspectives at Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences, Mumbai from 5th to 7th January 2001

Trained over 250 surgeons in the country in last 40 years at the G.T. Hospital, Grant Medical College, Mumbai, Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences as well as Shrikhande Clinic.

Established Shrikhande Clinic in 1977. This has become a training centre in Gastrointestinal Surgery for young surgeons and observers from all over the country. Also, students from abroad come as observers.

Invited to operate on the past President of India, His Excellency, Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma at Army Hospital, New Delhi, April 1994.

Operated on Rajyogini Dadi Prakashmani, Chief of Brahma Kumaris at the J. Watumul Memorial Global Hospital & Research Centre, Mt. Abu, India March 1999.

Received an award from the Sahyog Foundation for Excellence in Medical field in Surgery September 2000.

Presented on 26th August 2006 a lifetime achievement award from Johnson and Johnson Ltd. at the conference ‘Current standards in Digestive surgery, an update for the General and GI Surgeons Scientific Program’ Mumbai.

Awarded the 15th Karmayogi Puraskar on December 15, 2007 as recognition of contributions to the development of surgical science in India by the Bombay Medical Aid Foundation.

Felicitated on Doctor’s Day July 1, 2001 by the Indian Medical Association, Bombay, West Suburban Branch and given an appreciation award for the Yeomen services rendered to the society.
